Travel Schlepp in HungaryI only spent a short weekend in Budapest. Debbie, Karl, and I took the train from Vienna one Saturday and came back the next day. We stayed in a spa, shopped for Christmas presents, climbed a big hill, saw a castle, and went down into a dungeon. Not many people know that Budapest is really two cities, like Minneapolis
and St. Paul. Buda is on the south side of the river Danube and Pest
is on the north.

This is the Hotel Gelhert, a famous spa in Budapest. Its on the Buda side of the Danube. It has a big swimming pool, hot springs, and massage areas.
Karl and I went up the hill beside the Gelhert and saw this view of the Danube at night. Buda is on the left and Pest is on the right.
Buda Castle is on the next hill to the west. We went there on Sunday morning.
Debbie made friends with this little, old lady who was selling lace on Buda Castle in the cold drizzle. Muscians played accordians nearby.
From Buda Castle I could see the Hungarian Parliment building across the river.
Before we left Budapest, Debbie and Karl went down into a different kind of dungeon, a wine cellar. There they could sample all kinds of Hungarian wines. |
